When I was a teenager, I went on a trip to the woods. It was not dark and horrid woods; it was not too vast, nevertheless, you could walk for hours without reaching its edge. It was a great walk. The weather was fine, the paths were smooth, so I walked and walked. Somewhere around 3 p.m., I felt that I am hungry, and it’s about time I come back.
The problem was, as usual, which way leads to home. I did not know. But I felt I should walk East, because till this moment I had a feeling I headed toward west. But how to set out the directions? I did not have a phone or any kind of GPS. But I had something cool: the newly purchased compass. I took it out of my pocket, hung its string around my neck and I hit the road.
I was marching, and from time to time I looked at my compass. I was sure I was quite smart doing so.
But after two hours I reached exactly the same forest clearing. How could it be? I had used my compass! It is impossible. But it was a reality. I had the compass and got lost at the same time.
I sat on the grass and looked at the compass. It occurred that in the etui was a little booklet with instructions. I started to read it. After a few minutes, it became clear that I used my compass wrongly. I had looked at the compass, and I was not paying even attention to the magnetic needle.
Not everyone who has a compass in a hand knows where to go.
It concerns, even more, our inside compass. It is not enough to have feelings, dreams, desired, etc. You need to know how to interpret it.
